None of the Spooky, All of the Fun

Into EDM, living near NYC, jumping at the bit to wear a costume, but not wanting to trick or treat this year? Well, you’re in luck. From October 29th to the 31st, there will be roughly 100 EDM shows in the greater NYC area. Some of these shows are low key with small-name DJs at small-name venues; some are huge shows at top venues with thousands of people and world-renowned artists. No matter what style of show you enjoy, there is sure to be some Halloween-inspired EDM fun for all.

Track of the Week: Memories Will Fade

Sitting in my room one day last semester, I decided to go online and search the top EDM songs of the week. The top track was an “ID” by Yves V. Essentially what this means is that the track was unreleased, the artist played it at a show, and people thought it was sick. I hit play and jammed out to a song that I would soon forget about.

A few weeks back, I watched Yves V perform at TomorrowWorld. Suddenly, one of the tracks he played sparked a memory in me. It took me back to that “ID” that I had never followed up on when it was released. I quickly captured the song title on Shazam and proceeded to YouTube to hear it again.

This track, released as “Memories Will Fade,” was produced in conjunction with Promise Land. The vocals are provided by Mitch Thompson. I love everything about this song. On what is once again a stressful Monday, I had just the song I needed sitting in my back pocket to upload as my Track of the Week. For those who love EDM and for those who just love good music, this song is sure to bring you some goosebumps. Throw on some headphones, turn up the volume, and “fade” away to this song.

Humpday Hotlist: It Feels Like Monday

Hooray for the fact that it’s Wednesday. Coming off a four-day weekend, today has sure felt significantly more like Monday than Wednesday, but I won’t complain about the fact that there are only two more days until the weekend! As I’m guessing all of you need it as well, here are some feel good tracks to give you some energy in getting back into the swing of things. The remix of “Say My Name” has been stuck in my head for roughly six straight days now, so it needed to be first. “Satellites” was my Track of the Week, so that was a gimme. The new DVBBS song, “Never Leave,” is really interesting. The way they programmed the vocals make them super trippy, but the drop brings you right back to reality- and fistbumping. Also included is a banger by Nervo and a bass-filled jam by JAUZ. I hope this playlist gets you successfully through to Friday night!

Track of the Week: Satellites

With this Columbus Day holiday, I almost forgot to post today. But here it is, the Track of the Week! This week’s TOTW features Bobby Burns with an exceptional song titled “Satellites.” This is just one of those feel good songs. No matter what mood you are in, this is a song that can make you happy. This post is cutting it close to the end of Monday, but whether you listen to this song today or tomorrow, you will find that this song is worth the listen. Enjoy!

Humpday Hotlist: Top 5 Tracks of the Week

Happy Humpday! This week’s Hotlist includes some diversity. “Fall Under Skies” starts off the playlist, and that’s for a reason. This song has really cool synths and percussion at the drop. Some of the sounds that combine to create the drop are sounds that you would normally never hear in a song, but the creative producers Jonas Aden and Robby East were able to make it work. The second song, “All My Love” in the Mike Mago remix, is my Track of the Week, so I obviously have a liking for it. The new Hardwell track, “Mad World,” is one of the first singles Hardwell has released since putting out his album last year. In his usual progressive style, Hardwell combined the vocals of Jake Reese with his production skills to make a banger. EDX’s new track, “Belong,” is a must hear. And finally, “Refined” by Connor Cruise is a song I never would’ve come across if it weren’t for SoundCloud, but I am glad I did. Enjoy, and remember: only two days until the weekend!

Track of the Week: All My Love (Mike Mago Remix)

I learned of this week’s Track of the Week by listening to Oliver Helden’s weekly radio show, Heldeep Radio. He actually placed this as the first song in the mix, and it set his show up to be a great one. This songs give off a really cool vibe. It’s chill, but at the same time, it’s hard not to dance to it. Mike Mago has been putting out some great songs lately. In fact, I included his song, “Deeper Love,” in my Humpday Hotlist a few weeks back. He has an interesting way of working in horn sounds, synths, and percussion to create a unique mix. The original mix of this song is good; I just think this remix is better.

Throwback Thursday: “Save the World”- Swedish House Mafia

For the second edition of Throwback Thursday on EDM Meal Plan, I decided to be original and, again, choose a track by Swedish House Mafia. All the songs they produced were bangers, and if you have an issue with me posting about them, I don’t really care :). This song, like “Don’t You Worry Child,” is another song that’s hard not to like. It has incredible vocals and is inspiring. I get hype every time I hear it. I honestly feel like I could go out and save the world right now. Plus, I really like dogs, so this video makes me happy.

So listen to this video, enjoy it, and just think: one more day until the weekend!

Humpday Hotlist: My Current Top 5

I decided this week to say “no” to choosing a specific subgenre for the hotlist and to instead just pick my top 5 songs that I am currently listening to. I am a huge Steve Aoki fan, and his new song with Tony Junior and Nervo is awesome. Hardwell has always had a special place in my heart, and his new track with Armin Van Buuren is sick. I am aware that I chose “The One,” by W&W, as my Track of the Week, but it is good enough that I felt the need to post it twice in three days. Also included are “I Want Your Soul,” by Sleepy Tom, and a song from last year, “Payback.” I like to think it is a pretty dope playlist, and I am hoping you will too.

Track of the Week: The One

This edition of the Track of the Week features “The One” by W&W. W&W usually make electro house with huge drops. However, this track falls under the progressive house subgenre, and it makes me think W&W should be doing this more often. The instrumentals in the background combine to create euphoria, and samples of the vocals are used in a unique way to make a melody. Obviously, I think this is a great song if I chose to put it up as my Track of the Week, but it is hard to put into words exactly how good I think it is. Despite my inability to express my love for this song, maybe it will give you an understanding of this song’s greatness if I tell you that my friends and I haven’t been able to get it out of our heads for several days now.

Humpday Hotlist: Top 5 House Tracks of the Week

Today marks the first Humpday Hotlist. As I initially got my start in the world of EDM, I had a certain affinity for progressive house and electro house. However, over the last few months, my tastes have shifted towards house. I enjoy the sound of the compressed piano that is present in many of these tracks. It adds a certain ambiance to each track that it’s present in, and it’s something I believe everyone can enjoy.

This playlist includes two songs from Don Diablo, including a brand new song that was just released with Tiesto. You will also find a really cool song by Mike Mago that crosses over into tropical house. “Alone No More” is a track by a lesser known DJ and producer, Philip George, that I can’t seem to put on pause. I think the coolest song on this list, though, is the Firebeatz remix of “The Party,” which itself was a remix of “This Is How We Do It,” a song which debuted in 1995. Enjoy!
