Okay, so I may or may not be currently obsessed with Above & Beyond. And therefore, I may or may not have dedicated this whole playlist to the group’s music (I did, as you can see by looking above). No matter what I say about these songs, my words won’t do them justice. So, I’m gonna let the music do the talking. Track of the Week: We’re All We Need
This week’s TOTW is one of my all-time favorite tracks. Above & Beyond is an extremely talented group specializing in trance music. This song is a tremendous representation of the group’s talent. The synths used in this song combined with transcendent lyrics cause me to zone out whenever I hear it. It’s hard to explain in words, but I’m sure you will understand after listening.
This is the first time I have ever seen the song’s music video; it did not disappoint. While watching, I was complete enthralled by what was happening. It was an expert use of foreshadowing at the beginning before going back to show how the two women ended up in the predicament they found themselves in with the police. The ending was very cool, too, as it was so open-ended. I wonder if they drove off the cliff… what do you think?
Throwback Thursday: Hello
I was looking through YouTube videos last weekend out of boredom, and I came across the song “Hello.” This is a song I am sure everyone has heard at some point or another, and I was surprised to see that Martin Solveig had a hand in producing it. I have just recently heard of Martin Solveig in the last year due to songs like “Intoxicated” and “+1,” so it was cool to see he was making hits five years ago. He is a pretty eccentric guy, and that is represented in this music video.
I hope you all have a great weekend; I know I will. My school’s basketball team is having its basketball home opener tomorrow, and basketball season is my favorite time of the year. If you want a good team to support, follow the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team this season as they shock the nation.
Humpday Hotlist (11/11/15)
Welcome back for another Humpday Hotlist! This week features brand new music from big-name artists.
The first track is an edit of “Ghost Town” by Adam Lambert. It is very similar to the original but a little bit chiller. Good stuff.
“Sins” and “Souls,” by Borgeous, were released at the same time as an EP. As the names of the tracks are somewhat opposites, these tracks feature opposite styles. “Sins” is more house while “Souls” is more progressive.
The fourth song, “Got The Love,” was my Track of the Week, so that was a shoo-in.
The final track, “If We Can’t,” is another future house track, a subgenre I have been featuring a lot lately. To me, the drops are really interesting, and this song does not disappoint.
Track of the Week: Got The Love
I’m back this week with another Don Diablo track. In my opinion, this guy can do no wrong. He sets out to do one thing: to make great music. And he consistently does just that. This is another feel good song with a big drop, a perfect song for a Monday. Enjoy!
They like EDM. Why don’t You?: Michele Trietley
This is the beginning of a new series. I don’t know how long it will go for or how many posts it will consist of. I am starting this because it is important to me. I am all about people enjoying any kind of music they want to, and I respect anyone’s decision not to listen to EDM. However, I think a lot of people choose not to listen to EDM because they have a misunderstanding of the culture associated with it. I think the idea of a “rave” is misconstrued in the minds of those who haven’t experienced one. I think that deaths from drugs at shows and festivals have given EDM a bad image. I think it is time for that to change.
There is a certain generation associated with EDM. In my opinion, it is much like the generation of Woodstock: young adults with no desire to adhere to civil norms who love to party, get drunk and high, and listen to music. Well, I am here to tell you the EDM fan base is much wider than that.
I will be interviewing people who like EDM but don’t fit the profile of a “typical” EDM lover. My goal is to show that many types of people enjoy the musical talent embedded in electronic songs and the benefits this music provides. My first interviewee is my mother, Michele Trietley.
1. Can you provide a little of your background so as to give us some context about yourself? I am 49 and grew up in Allegany, NY, to Nancy and Jim Rouleau. I am the fourth of five children; four girls and one boy. I pursued an undergraduate degree at St. Bonaventure University where I also played basketball for the Lady Bonnies. I was captain my senior year and was awarded the Letterman of the Year Award in 1988. I was part of the team when we jumped from Division II to Division I for my last two years. I graduated cum laude with a BA in sociology in 1988. I met my future husband, Rick, at Bonas, and a year after graduation, I married him. We moved around the U.S. as he pursued a career as an Army officer. We have two great sons, Ricky, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and Kyle [me], a jr/sr who is at St Bonaventure. I have been fortunate to have tried many different jobs in my life and also to have obtained a masters in adolescent education. My hobbies include exercise, gardening/yard work, house decorating, carpentry/crafts, travel, and spending time with family and friends. I have been a ‘mom’ to three great dogs; Pooker, Midnight, and Gracie. I love music, having grown up listening to 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and more all the time, dancing whenever possible and appreciating all forms of it.
2. What is your favorite genre of music? I would have to say I love all types of music, but if I have to pick just one, it would be pop/top 40.
3. When and how did you start listening to EDM? I began listening to EDM about three years ago when my son Kyle [me] introduced it to his father and I. He was DJing at his former university and came across this genre of music. When he brought it to my attention, I immediately liked it because of the great beats in the songs and the high energy it possessed.
4. Why do you think people are against giving EDM a try? I think if people are afraid to give EDM a try, it is more just due to misinformation as to what it really is about. Or maybe they are just not open to new genres of music. It could also be the unfamiliarity of this style of music as it has been popular abroad and is just seeming to make a move here in the last few years. I think the more exposure people have to it, the more they will like it.
5. What is your favorite moment involving EDM? My favorite moment with EDM? I have a few. One involved dancing with another Bona mom to some great music last year at family weekend. Another was being at the beach with my family and listening to EDM with my son [me]. I also love listening (or should I say dancing) to my son’s weekly EDM radio show at my home every week.
6. What is your favorite electronic song? It actually involves two: “Delirious” and “Five Hours” (to include the remake with lyrics by Chris Brown). Not only did I love their upbeat tempo from the start, but they are also two great songs that got me through my preparation and eventual marathon walk last year at the Mountain Man Memorial Marathon walk in Tennessee. When I needed the extra boost of energy to pound out the miles of pavement, I only needed to put the earbuds in and wham! I was motivated.
7. Do you see yourself going to an EDM show or festival? I’m not quite sure I can see myself at an EDM festival in the future as the energy of those shows and the amount of people dancing all over seems a bit overwhelming to me at my age. I prefer going crazy in my own house listening to EDM! But if my son [me] takes me and looks out for me and can talk his aunts into going, that is a possibility!
8. Do you think EDM will ever be the top genre in America? No, because the U.S. seems to me to be more of a rock and roll or country country. It is not to say there is not room for it to be popular here, though. I feel there is always room for all great forms of music.
9. If I was to promote EDM to non listeners and only had three words to say it what would I say? Energetic and Uplifting.

Throwback Thursday: One (Your Name)
After a brief stint from posting Swedish House Mafia songs as my Throwback Thursdays, once again, the Mafia returns to my blog. This time, it is in collaboration with Pharell in the track, “One (Your Name).” This song is still a popular dance anthem five years after it was released. The music video is kind of creepy, yet kind of awesome. It is basically a futuristic DJ/producer set up that turns into a trippy, most likely drug-infused mini-rave that ends in violence. It is quite the opposite of what I would’ve expected this music video to be, and for that, I decided to share it with you, my lovely readers. Happy Thursday!
Humpday Hotlist: Week of 11/2/15
Hello readers! I hope you all had a great Halloween weekend; I know I did. In fact, a few of the songs included in this playlist are songs I found this past weekend and was able to play on my radio show, so that always makes the weekend a little sweeter.
The first song, “Let It Breathe,” is a song I found last May and completely forgot about until it came up on a shuffle on my phone last week. It has excellent vocals and served as a perfect fit to begin this hotlist.
The second song is by Above & Beyond. I was disappointed this past August at Veld Music Festival when I was unable to see this group perform due to weather. Luckily, I can still listen to their music whenever I choose to.
The third song is one I found this past Thursday. I finally got around to watching “We Are Your Friends,” and this song was included in the movie’s soundtrack. Although some parts of the movie were unrealistic, overall, I enjoyed it.
The fourth song is an original mix by yours truly. I dabble in the world of music production, and this is a track that I put out last semester. I figured I would throw it in this week to do a little promoting. Please leave me some feedback on the track in the comments below.
The final song is a song I found Saturday morning while preparing for my radio show. The Showtek Edit of “Space Jungle” is a dope track, and it was produced by my future wife, Eva Shaw.

Track of the Week: Like To Know
I cannot take credit for finding this week’s TOTW. In fact, the credit belongs to my good friend Oscar. The other day we were pumpin’ some iron in the gym and he told me he had found a song during the workout that I needed to hear; it turned out he had found a banger. He has a cool blog as well. Future house, the subgenre this song falls under, is quickly becoming my favorite sub genre of all EDM. I enjoy how the drops are simple. Basically, they just consist of a synth covering the melody, a bass line, and some clean percussion. This song follows that format well, and I’m thinking you will start to enjoy future house, too, after listening.
Throwback Thursday: We Own The Night
Although Tiesto has been getting flack lately for “editing” tracks (which many people think he was just throwing his name on the tracks for marketing purposes as opposed to actually doing any producing on them), “We Own The Night” would never have been a thought if Tiesto hadn’t been involved. His style is very evident and is the backbone of this track. When I hear this song now, I still find it as good as I once did three years ago. Many of you may have heard this before, but I’m sure you won’t complain that I chose to put it up as my TBT.
